Astrid’s Background
Astrid was once a normal human. When she was eight years old, she accompanied her family on a camping trip.
During the trip, she was lured away in the middle of the night by something she doesn’t quite remember herself. As she wandered off, she wandered into a den of vampires.
For eight long years, she was a blood slave to the vampires. During her servitude, she secretly memorized the escape routes and the routines of the vampires.
Finally, the night of her escape, she was able to subdue the vampires with magic that she had found in a few ancient tomes that a vampire had carelessly left lying around.
She took the tomes with her as she ran from the den.
Knowing that she couldn’t go back to a normal life (as she could not remember much about it anyway) she decided to hone her new found power.
The magic that she had awakened within her had led her in the direction of a small abandoned cabin. Oddly, she felt as if fate had lead her there and she mad it her home.
Astrid can be considered an expert in “light magic”. Dark creatures are repelled by it. In addition, she knows a few basic, yet minor elemental and illusion spells. Also, she knows how to open inter-dimensional portals almost effortlessly. Astrid also has a knowledge of herbs and herbal remedies, due to her stay at the cabin.
Her magic power is limited and she becomes fatigued if she uses it often. Therefore, she carries runes and a silver dagger with her. The runes are used to amplify her powers while the silver dagger is used in case she can no longer use her magic.
While on a trek into town, she heard a person calling for help. She was able to fend off a demon attack, and has since then been called at various times to aid a town. Of course this comes at a price. She gets paid, or the demon stays.
The reason why she demands payment, is due to the amount of people that shun her when she enters a town. This has lead to a resentment of her own kind. She hates most other humans, preferring to interact with any supernatural being.
The few humans that are kind to her, however are held in high regard.
